Know Your Council Tax
Friday 8th January 2016

The Leapark Hotel, Grangemouth

Wednesday 17th February 2016

Getting your council tax charges right first time? Spending scarce resources correcting incorrect bills?

This course takes delegates through the principles of council tax and will equip them to assess council tax charges correctly and to the correct charge payers.

Course background

IRRV in Scotland has, for some years, run introductory courses aimed at new staff in council tax, benefits and non-domestic rates.

Local authorities have requested another course specifically aimed at Council Tax staff that is suitable for both new or inexperienced staff wishing an introduction to the subject. This course is also highly useful for staff with greater local government experience but who wish a refresher on recent developments in this area of revenues administration. The course will cover all recent legislative changes and will also cover the Council Tax Reduction Scheme.

The seminar represents excellent value for money, with seminar fees starting at only £125 + VAT. This includes lunch, refreshments, and training materials.

As places are limited, early booking is recommended. The IRRV regrets that, under normal circumstances, delegate fees cannot be refunded. However, delegate substitutions may be made at no cost at any time prior to the Seminar, subject to these being notified to the Institute.

SPECIAL OFFER

Every fourth place from the same organisation booked for the course in this brochure (and made in the same booking) is entirely free of charge.

Please note that, due to the demand for places, this offer applies only to the course detailed on the booking form on this brochure.

The Course

This course gives delegates an invaluable introduction or refresher to the administration of Council Tax in Scotland. It will be of interest to local authority staff and others, such as Sheriff Officers’ staff and recovery agents.

  • Council Tax Charge (Basis of Charge; Valuation; Assessment; Water & Sewerage Charges)

  • Council Tax Liability, Exemptions, Discounts, Disabled Reductions, Council
  • Tax Reduction Scheme

The Course Leader for the course is Allan Traynor, and a past national President of the IRRV, with extensive experience of revenues administration in Scottish Local Government.
