Course background

At the request of local authorities, IRRV is running this workshop to give attendees an in-depth look at complex areas within the administration of Housing Benefit.

The course is aimed at staff who deal with Housing Benefit on a day to basis either as managers, supervisors or decision makers. It will also be of interest to anyone who wants a more detailed look at the complex areas of Housing Benefit administration.

How to treat a self-employed person or a student in Housing Benefit/Council Tax Reduction

Persons from Abroad
A review of the complex area of legislation and how this impacts on benefits administration.

Exempt/Supported Accommodation including Specified Accommodation
Another area where there have been recent and future changes. A review of what is and is not exempt accommodation and the impact this has on Housing Benefit.

Emerging Issues
Latest emerging issues in the administration of Housing Benefit.

General Administration
General administration issues will be covered throughout the day.

Audience-led Housing Benefit questions and feedback
A general round up and discussion of any area raised by the audience either in advance or on the day.

The day is designed to be interactive and promotes sharing of knowledge and best practice.

Course Leader -  Les Robertson

The Course will be facilitated by Les Robertson IRRV, who is a past Institute Scottish Association President and former Education Liaison Officer for Scotland.

Les is a respected Revenues and Benefit practitioner with over 20 years of experience in these fields.

Les is a current tutor for both Benefits Technician and Revenues Technician courses run by the IRRV, as well as being a Distance Learning Tutor and Examiner.
