Course Background

IRRV Scotland is delighted to announce the return of the Annual Scottish Revenues Symposium, at the request of authorities and IRRV members across Scotland.

The 2018 Symposium is taking place at the Leapark Hotel, Grangemouth on Wednesday 23rd May 2018.

The Symposium this year will concentrate on improving revenues administration, high quality service standards, the future of the Council Tax Reduction Scheme, a legal debt recovery briefing, an update on benchmarking and other key issues.

The Revenues Symposium, which is a must for all revenues practitioners, topical issues in revenues administration, and has had the support of virtually all Scottish local authorities.

It is an excellent opportunity for staff involved in revenues administration to hear about the key issues in Scotland. It will be of considerable interest to all staff working in all aspects of revenues collection and recovery, including Council Tax, miscellaneous income and related areas.

The Detail

This year’s Symposium includes :

  • The future for Council Tax Reduction – An opportunity to discuss possible options for changing the CTR scheme in the future, and to contribute your thoughts on how CTR could be adapted to reflect the changing benefit landscape : Ben Haynes, Head of Policy, Council Tax Reduction Scheme, Scottish Governmen
  • Most Improved Team of the Year – achievement and challenges ahead
  • Changing service delivery models to deliver revenues services that tackle deprivation and promote social inclusion : Chris Thomson, NDR and Collections Manager – Customer & Business Services, Glasgow City Council
  • Benchmarking and other key issues facing revenues – the work of the Improvement Service council tax family group for benchmarking : Stephen Humphries, Senior Manager - Revenues and Benefits, North Ayrshire Council
  • Benchmarking workshop session
  • Legal Debt Recovery Briefing : Presented by Stephen Cowan of Yuill + Kyle Solicitors, this session will give attendees a briefing on legal debt recovery, including low-cost/high-impact pre-sue options, right through to court action and bankruptcy/liquidation.
  • Fast-track routes will be explored and consideration given to whether authorities are using Late Payment legislation to their advantage, for example their ability to recover interest and collection costs.
  • Improving engagement throughout the customer journey

     

The Symposium will be chaired by Lesley Henderson, Vice President of the IRRV Scottish Association and Chair of the IRRV Development and Performance Forum

The Symposium will be invaluable to all revenues practitioners, including Managers, Team Leaders and team members. It represents excellent value for money, with symposium fees starting at only £145 + VAT.

To encourage authorities to send a number of team members, every third delegate from the same authority comes entirely free of charge. As places are limited, early booking is recommended.

The IRRV regrets that, under normal circumstances, delegate fees cannot be refunded. However, delegate substitutions may be made at no cost at any time prior to the Symposium, subject to these being notified to the Institute.

How to Book

Please complete the booking form and send/fax it to the address above.   You may also e-mail bookings to scotland@irrv.org.uk.   Full joining instructions will be sent to delegates once a booking form has been received.  

As places are limited, early booking is recommended.   The IRRV regrets that, under normal circumstances, delegate fees cannot be refunded.   However, delegate substitutions may be made at no cost at any time prior to the Seminar, subject to these being notified to the Institute. 

Please note that every 4th delegate from the same organisation comes entirely free of charge.

Please note that attendees must bring with them a laptop that can connect to public wifi.    The venue will provide complimentary wifi access.
