IRRV is pleased to advise of this important training event on data protection law and administration – taking place on 19th November in Grangemouth.

This course will provide delegates with the key requirements of data protection law for those with Revenues and Benefits responsibilities. It will include updates on legislation, case law, enforcement and emerging trends.

Participation, discussion and questions are encouraged. Delegates are welcome to bring forward issues, problems or questions that they are facing. Advance queries are welcome and can be covered in the course.


The course will cover :


  • The key obligations in current data protection legislation

  • Relevant data subject rights and where those rights may be restricted

  • Sharing personal information with others including the implementation of the Digital Economy Act 2017

  • Recent Information Commissioner Decisions and the circumstances behind them

  • Appreciation of the overlap between data protection and freedom of information

  • The effect of Brexit on data protection law


    At the end of the course, delegates will have greater understanding of :


  • The key requirements of the Data Protection Act 2018

  • How to respond to the public on data protection matters

  • The issues that arise in sharing personal information and what can be done

  • How to avoid being the source of a data breach.

The course will be led by John Harding. John has 30 years’ experience of administering Benefits and Council Tax in Edinburgh with extensive experience of Benefit and Council Tax appeals; setting up the Scottish Appeals Practitioners Group within the IRRV. Over the last three years John has been focusing on Privacy and Data Protection.
