IRRV in Scotland is delighted to announce the return of the Scottish Benefits and Welfare Reform Conference.

This is a major event in the Institute’s calendar and an excellent opportunity for senior benefits practitioners and their staff to hear about the key issues affecting the administration of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction in Scotland.

Last year, the event was, at the request of delegates, substantially updated. This was a real success so the same approach is being taken in 2019. The event is now a one-day non-residential event, which means a significant reduction in delegate fees, resulting in this event being one of the most competitive benefits and welfare reform events.

It is being held in Grangemouth on Wednesday 6th November 2019. We are pleased to again be holding an accompanying exhibition, allowing delegates to have the opportunity to visit companies specialising in areas of interest to them.

With hugely significant changes to the benefits system being implemented, the IRRV is pleased to advise of a very strong field of speakers and an extremely comprehensive programme of topics at this year’s Scottish Benefits and Welfare Reform Conference.

This is the key event in Scotland for all practitioners with an interest in the effective management of the Housing Benefit & Council Tax Reduction Service. The Conference is, in particular, aimed at:

  • Benefits Managers and other senior benefits staff, including Team Leaders

  • Members of Housing Benefit & Council Tax Reduction Teams

  • All who provide welfare rights and benefits advice, both in the voluntary and local government sectors

  • Housing providers in the local government, RSL and private sectors

  • Corporate Fraud staff and also audit staff with responsibility for auditing the Benefits function

  • Other finance and housing department staff with an interest in current issues in welfare and housing support

We are pleased to advise of a very strong field of speakers and topics covered this year. Subjects covered include:

  • Update on welfare reform and Universal Credit progress from the Department for Work and Pensions

  • Universal Credit implementation – local authority impacts to date – and the future

  • Engaging with difficult Housing Benefit and CTR customers

  • Promoting social inclusion – the role of advice and support hubs

  • Child poverty and devolved social security

  • How artificial intelligence can improve benefits performance and reduce in-bound calls

  • Education benefits briefing

  • Counter fraud – internal and external

  • Housing Benefits overpayments briefing

The Conference also represents excellent value for money, with seminar fees starting at only £175 + VAT. To encourage authorities to send a number of team members, every third delegate from the same organisation comes free of charge.
